SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS
Teachers, because of their proximity to children, are frequently confronted
with situations that, if handled incorrectly, could result in liability to
the ESC and personal liability to the staff member. It is the purpose of
this policy to direct the preparation of guidelines that would minimize that
possibility.
It is the responsibility of the Superintendent to prepare regulations to
ensure the maintenance of the following standards:
1. A teacher should not voluntarily assume responsibility for duties he/she
cannot reasonably perform. Such assumption carries the same responsibilities
as assigned duties.
2. A teacher must immediately report to the principal an accident or a
safety hazard he/she detects.
3. A teacher must not transport students in a personal vehicle without the
approval of an administrator.
4. A student shall not be required to perform work or services that may be
detrimental to his/her health.
Pursuant to the laws of the State, each teacher must report to the
appropriate authorities and the principal immediately any sign of suspected
child abuse or drug abuse.
