STUDENT RECORDS
DEFINITIONS

The educational interests of the student require the collection, retention and use of information about individual students and groups of students. At the same time, the student's right of privacy mandates careful custodianship and limitations on access to student records.

Student records are available to the parent, adult, student and certain other persons in accordance with the procedures of the Educational Service Center. Upon the request of the viewer, a record shall be reproduced, unless said record is copyrighted, and the viewer charged a fee equivalent to the cost of handling the reproduction.

Except for directory information, no names or personally identifiable information regarding a student shall be released to any person, other than the student or his/her parent, without the written consent of the parent or guardian; or, if the student is 18 years of age or older, the written consent of the student, except that a person acting in his/her capacity as an employee of this Educational Service Center or of the State or Federal government may be permitted administrative use of public school records, and the records of a student may be transferred to an educational institution for a legitimate educational purpose.

The Governing Board authorizes the administration to forward education records on request to a school in which a student of this Educational Service Center seeks or intends to enroll.

No liability shall attach to any member, officer or employee of the Service Center specifically as a consequence of permitting access or furnishing student records in accordance with this policy and regulations.
