Student Instructional Use of Computers/Internet
Guidelines/Acceptable Use Regulations
The Clermont County Educational Service Center (CCESC) is pleased to offer
students access to the Internet, a global electronic information
infrastructure that will enable students to explore thousands of libraries,
databases, and websites. This access is being offered as part of a
collaborative effort between the Clermont County Educational Service Center
and the Hamilton/Clermont Cooperative Association (H/CCA). Students will use
the Internet to participate in distance learning activities, to ask
questions and consult with experts, and to locate resources to meet their
educational information needs.
Access to network sources will be given to students who agree to act in a
considerate and responsible manner. Parent permission is required. Access is
a privilege – not a right. Access entails responsibility. Students are
responsible for good behavior on the school computer network just as they
are in a classroom or in the school hallways. Information on the network is
public in nature, and it is presumed that users will comply with the school
district’s standards and will honor the agreement they have signed.
Educators will have the professional responsibility to work with students to
help them develop the intellectual skills needed to discriminate among the
information sources, to identify information appropriate to their age and
developmental levels, and to evaluate and use information to meet their
educational goals.
The H/CCA network administrators have taken reasonable precautions to
restrict access to controversial materials. Several firewalls have been
installed to block access to sex, violence, and hate related sites. These
firewalls are frequently reviewed and updated to maintain a safe environment
for our students. However, on a global network, it is impossible to control
all materials and an industrious user may discover controversial
information. The Clermont County Educational Service Center believes that
the benefits to students from access to the Internet, in the form of
information resources and opportunities for collaboration, exceed any
possibility that users may obtain material that is not consistent with the
educational goals of the Clermont County Educational Service Center.
Ultimately parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and
conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media
and information sources. To that end, the Clermont County Educational
Service Center supports and respects each family’s right to decide whether
or not to allow their child access to the Internet.
The Clermont County Educational Service Center will periodically make
determinations of whether specific uses of the Network are consistent with
this policy. The Clermont County Educational Service Center reserves the
right to log Internet use, review user account activity, files and
communications, and to monitor utilization by users. Users should not expect
that files stored on district servers would be private.
The Clermont County Educational Service Center makes no warranties of any
kind, whether express or implied, for the service it is providing. Use of
the information obtained via the Internet is at user’s own risk. The
Clermont County Educational Service Center specifically denies any
responsibility for the accuracy of information obtained through its Internet
connection.
