When I was asked to write about my
success, I thought “Yeah right!
What success?” I don’t own my own car,
I don’t own my home, I don’t have
a good career—in fact, I don’t even
have
a career. Then I got to thinking,
I do have a success story.
I have a
wonderful husband, three beautiful children, and a roof over my family’s
head and mine. I may not own it, but
for now it is home! I am 29 years old
and finally feeling complete. |
 |
|
I can honestly tell my friends and family that I am successful. I now
have my
High School Equivalency Diploma and a loving, wonderfully
supportive family!
I can finally go to college to get the nursing certificate that I have
wanted for so long. To me, just receiving my diploma made me feel
successful; it was the one thing I was lacking in life. To wait
14 years to get my diploma was a mistake. I
am very thankful that we
drop-outs have the opportunity to go back to school
and have a second
chance at receiving the most valuable piece of paper anyone will ever
have in life! It has been one month since I received my diploma and I
still show it off today. It may have taken me over a decade to fulfill
my hopes
and dreams, but they are now accomplished and I am a success to myself
and a positive role model to my family.

I have been married for fifteen years and have been a full-time
mother for twelve years. I have enjoyed taking care of my family and
our home. Occasionally I thought about getting my GED but always found
an excuse to put it off. After the loss of my mother and youngest son,
I realized that none of us know how long we have, so we should
accomplish everything we can while we are here. |

After the holidays I
decided to attend GED classes. I came to GED class with low self-esteem
but determined to receive my diploma. After four months of working hard
and not missing a class, I passed the GED Pretest, and then went on to
pass the Official GED Test. After passing the test and receiving my
diploma I am now going to choose a college and pursue a career as a
medical assistant. A few months ago college never crossed my mind, but
I have realized there is more for me than just getting my diploma.
I have gotten more out of the GED class than I had expected. I have
gained self-respect, and I have made many friends that I plan to keep in
touch with. I have gained the knowledge and belief that if you work
hard and keep a positive attitude, you can do anything. I can proudly
say I am a graduate.

Not having to go to an everyday classroom for the past thirty-six years,
this in itself has been a challenge for me. I have managed numerous
production departments and personnel for many years in a manufacturing
environment, not knowing that I would be going back to school to achieve
my G. E. D. and future goals. |
 |
|
The G.E.D. class has helped build confidence in myself and shows me that
I still have the ability to learn and dedicate myself to the goals I
have established. The G.E.D. class has given me the opportunity to
acquire my diploma, or its equivalent. As a graduate, I can begin to
further my education and have the opportunities to start a new career
and possibly a new business.
My G.E.D. graduation will prepare me for the next stop of my educational
journey. I plan to attend vocational school and further my education in
a totally different field from which I’m accustomed. I have learned
many things in this class, including certain disciplines. I plan to
take the things I have learned and apply them not only to my next level
of education, but also to my current business and possible future
career.

From the day you sign up to the day you receive your diploma, GED class
is there to help you brush up and regain a basic education which will be
needed for the rest of your life. I am living proof of how useful this
class is and how it can be. The individual help I got has a lot to do
with why this class meant so much to me. Some ways in which GED class
has helped me in particular are essay writing, math, and the fact that
it gave me the confidence in myself to help bring about my success. |
 |
|
|
|
When I first came to GED class I wrote an essay. Well, I
called it an essay, but in essence it was just a few paragraphs smashed
into one massive collection of random, useless information. In other
words, I wrote essays poorly and was in need of a decent amount of
improvement. GED class has taught me how to write an essay correctly. It
helped me refine my writing skills in many ways. Now I can whip out an
essay any time I want. Math has always been my
weak point. I try and try again on an equation, but it always resulted
in failure. When I first came to GED class my math scores were terrible.
It wasn’t like I was being lazy either. Every day I came in I studied my
math work. After going to GED class I now have a basic and relevant
knowledge of math.
When I came to GED class for the first time, the
aptitudes I mostly lacked were charisma, clarity, and confidence. I was
shy and unsocial. Plus, I never really spoke out anywhere. This is
really the most important feat that GED class has helped me to improve.
After going to class for a while, I felt more comfortable talking to
people. I was more open to discussion between classmates. That helped
with my social skills which improved a lot of my other traits by
default. If I don’t understand something, you can be sure that I’ll say
something. With a huge raise in confidence I stay motivated, attentive,
more socially involved, and have a great will to succeed.
I couldn’t tell you where I’d be right now without GED
class. It has really helped me out that much. To be totally honest, I am
really going to miss it. GED class has helped me by teaching me how to
write a correct essay, helping me brush up on math, and gave me the
confidence and charisma to do something with my life.

Deciding to take my GED was hard for me. The reason that I did was
because I want to have a better life for my children than what they have
now. I have always loved being around elderly people, so I have decided
to become a nurse.
|
 |
Coming to
this class has made me realize how many things I have forgotten over
the years and how important it is to know those things. So many people
can’t
get good jobs because of one piece of paper. I never really understood
before how important it actually is. Meeting so many different people
in so many different circumstances has been a very enlightening
experience for me. I have come to look forward to coming to this class
every week and learning something new every day.
Now that I’m almost done with the classes,
I’m a step closer to achieving my
goal of being a nurse. Thanks to it, my children are on the way to
having
a better future.

This class has meant a lot to me. When I
first came, I thought it would be a joke. It has become a place for me
to focus on the things I need to work on. This class has also refreshed
my memory, although before I enrolled in this class I had forgotten a
lot of the basic language arts skills. Now it’s as fresh as if I were
in school again. This class has prepared me for the GED test.
|
 |
|
This class has helped me refresh my
memory in a few different subjects. It has refreshed my language arts
skills, so that I will be able to pass the test. Without hesitating on
any question, I will be able to have a fresh sense of math skills.
This class has been very helpful
with test taking skills. It has also taught me on a timed test; if you
don’t know the answer right away, make a mark next to the question and
come back to it. The class has taught me to pay attention to the
question and what to look for on the test.
All of these reasons and examples
are the reasons for this class meaning so much to me. As you have read,
you too realize how significant this class has been to me. It helped me
by focusing and leaning new skills, refreshing my memory, and developing
test taking skills.
